JD.com’s CEO released after sexual misconduct arrest in US, reports say

JD.com’s founder and CEO Richard Liu was reportedly released after being arrested for sexual misconduct in Minnesota, while the company said that it was a false accusation.

Liu was arrested in Minneapolis shortly before midnight on Friday local time on suspicion of sexual misconduct and released just after 4pm on Saturday, according to CNBC news and BBC. JD.com said on its Weibo account that local police quickly determined there was no substance to the claim against Liu, and he was subsequently able to resume his business activities as originally planned.

John Elder, spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department, said an investigation was ongoing and declined to provide details of the arrest. Whether there would be charges or not was still unknown as the department haven’t concluded an investigation, but Liu is able to leave the US.

BBC said there is no restriction on Liu’s travel, and if the police department needs to get in touch with Liu, they will be able to do so.
